Complete guide to debugging a hot glue pot

You feel the excitement as you prepare for a session of guitar hacking. You start by mixing the proper ratio of hide glue and water and placing it in your trusty hot glue pot.

A while later you come back and find that your glue pot is not so trusty, it has let you down. Your hide glue is not hot :-(

Don't panic! Here is a complete guide for debugging such an issue.

Step 1:  Make sure it is plugged in

This resolved my issue.  If it does not resolve yours, continue on to Step 2.

Step 2:  Make sure it is turned on

Congratulations, you have completed all of the steps of debugging your hot glue pot!

At this point if you have not achieved hot hide glue, there are number of possibilities that are outside the scope of debugging your hot hide glue pot. Please read the following FAQ.

Q: What if you do not have electricity and/or an electric hot hide glue pot?

A:  Before the invention of the pink gnome small hot pot and similar technologies, the heating technology of choice was exothermic redox chemical reactions.  While not currently en vogue for this specific application, exothermic redox has reliably heated stuff since the dawn of time.

Q: What if you have electricity and a pink gnome small hot pot (or similar technology), but do not have hide glue?

A: For true resilience, it is best to have a Plan B which has as few common dependencies as possible with your Plan A.  There are many such possible Plan Bs for hot hide glue, the most common of which for guitar hacking is aliphatic resin which does not depend on refined hide, water, glue pots, electricity, nor exothermic redox.
